My older brother uses the word triggered that way, accusing me of being “triggered” and over sensitive when I get annoyed with something he says, but he’s a major dick when it comes to mental health topics. He’s also one of those people who uses “autistic” as an insult. He’s also one of those who says people with anxiety need to just “get over it”.

This person was talking about people who say they’re “triggered” when really they’re just squicked out or something. People use that as an excuse to make triggered jokes, since apparently that’s who they’re trying to make fun of or something. And like, I think some people did actually appropriate the word back in like 2012 or whatever, but I’m pretty sure that was stamped out pretty quickly, and these days it’s just assholes seeing unusual triggers and deciding, well, that can’t be a real source of trauma for anyone, this person must be misusing the word!
