the worst part about using autism as an insult in this case is that autistic people are cool and don’t deserve to be put into a group with matpat

*4 chan boy is crying*
4 chan boy 2: you sound triggered bro is everything okay?
if you actually call disabled people “differenly abled”, “challenged” “handicapped” or “handicapable” i will immediately stop caring about any opinion you have on anything involving people with disabilities and the struggles we face.
and if you dont know why, thats just another reason why i shouldnt listen to you.
just to clear a few things up, i get some people cant help but be ignorant, thats not what this post is about.
its about people who are so ignorant that they dont even know why these words are harmful, thinking theyre educated enough to talk about disabled issues.
also, for those of you trying to tell me/going to try and tell me handicap or handicapable isnt harmful in anyway, you should remember that not only has it been used as a sugarcoating term, another way for people to avoid using the word disabled, but is also usually used for objects, like elevators, parking spaces and washrooms, so to have it used for a person can be feel dehumanizing. that is why i included it.
i dont have an issue with ignorance, only with ignorant people talking about issues that theyre clearly ignorant on.
thats what this post was about.
[GIF set description: a scene from television series “Speechless”, in a school hallway two teen brothers converse, Ray is standing and JJ is sitting in his wheelchair with Kenneth, his aide, as his voice (he reads aloud as JJ laser points to words and letters on a board attached to his chair)
Ray: Are you friends with Donald Bronson?
JJ: Who?
Ray: That’s what I thought. He gave a whole speech about how you’re his hero! He said you’re the bravest guy he knows. you make him a better person…
JJ: Stupid inspiration porn!
Kenneth: What’s that?
Ray: It’s a portrayal of people with disabilities as one-dimensional saints who only exist to warm the hearts and open the minds of able-bodied people.]
OH MY GOD so far it looks like this show is EVERYTHING I’VE NEEDED I need to watch this RIGHT NOW
To other autistic people, what’s the silliest thing you’ve ever heard someone believe about autism?
Oh god how am I supposed to pick just one.
The crowd that believes vaccines cause autism are probably the worst. Other silly things I have heard include: all autistics are nonverbal, all autistics are cis boys, autistic people don’t have or want to have sex.
people constantly believe i cant be autistic because im living just fine on my own. i have an apartment by myself and i pay for college myself and they just cannot believe im so self sufficient
lol here we go
the crowds that believe that every autistic:
- is unimaginative
- is averse to touch, sex etc.
- has “the brain of a child”
- has tantrumy meltdowns
- acts generally inappropriate at home and in public
- is a white boy who cries a lot and is obsessed with trains
- ruins their parent/guardian’s life
- is unempathetic
- needs to be cured
- is nonverbal
- can’t have an independent life
…are all quite ridiculous
i saw a guy on tv who thought autistics can’t feel romantic love
or the classic “autistics are all basically mini-spocks” trope that i’ve seen in an unfortunate amount of fiction
Surely attractive teens who take disabled teens to prom with them, and then post it on social media, are treating them different because they have a disability
*person without autism voice* actually, autism is a mental illness. and it’s bad. my friend’s brother has autism and he is an idiot. how could you be autistic when you’re not an idiot. hey why are you getting mad? i was complimenting you
trigger jokes are so cheap. today i said “ew” at a banana on the ground and some annoying girl in our friend group who was standing like 10 meters away was immediately like “TRIGGERED!!!”. my friend and i stared at her. she stared back. this went on for maybe a solid thirty seconds. no one said anything & it was really viscerally unenjoyable for everyone involved
TRIGGERED
ha ha you are so funny ha ha very funny ha ha
Pleb humor

Me: people with mental illnesses aren’t monsters
some fuckoff: OH SO YOU’RE GENERALIZING THEM NOW
Fuck horror fandom by the way
neurotypicals really think that any horrible act must have been committed by someone with a mental illness bc no “”“normal”“” person would ever do that. in reality they just want to blame mental illness so that they can separate themselves from violence caused by other neurotypicals. they dont want to know that they are capable of the same atrocities.
pls stop neurotypicals in horror fandoms
Has anyone else noticed how, when you have a chronic condition of some kind, that there’s always the basic assumption from people around you that you’re not already doing everything you can?
It’s all about the illusion of control. People who are healthy like to believe they can always keep being healthy if they do the right things. They don’t want to think about how good people get struck with terrible circumstances for no reason.
So they keep assuming that if they got sick, they could do something to make it better.
And if you’re still sick, that must mean you’ve done something wrong or not done enough.Nail. Head. The same attitude can be seen in how a lot of people talk about poverty.
