If it runs out of moves, it could hurt itself with struggle! It being paralyzed implies this could’ve been an EVEN MORE HORRIFYING close call to it killing itself.

Further, the base chance to find a shiny in the 3DS games is 1/4096, and for legendaries like Lugia it can’t be pushed any higher than approximately 1/1365. Depending on how unlucky you are and whether or not you’ve done anything to increase your chances, you could be sitting there for a few weeks trying to get the shiny to show up in the first place.
