Let’s Players are the American equivalent of Japanese Idols.
From the fact that everyone wants to be one, right down to the fans who will absolutely piss their pants if their favorite one get’s a significant other.
Strong agree. Japanese Idols and LetsPlayers have a much stronger focus on a cult-of-personality style following. Being a good, likeable person is paramount to success. As opposed to Western celebrities, who can be scandalous & not necessarily likeable and still have quite lucrative careers.
Also the typical j-idol stars’ publicity heavily includes interacting with other idols/personalities, playing games, reacting to experiences, vlogging, etc, same as LetsPlayers. Idols and LetsPlayers both try to, through media, create an intimate, personable experience- this person is supposed to feel like your FRIEND, at the end of the day. It’s really quite interesting!
