I want to speedrun Pokemon Bank.

This isn’t (totally) a joke. Let me back up by explaining that I have the Pokemon Colosseum bonus disc with Jirachi. It’s only compatible with Ruby and Sapphire, and only once per save file. Therefore, every time I want a Jirachi, I have to start a new game in Ruby, play until I get the Pokedex, download Jirachi, and then catch five junk Pokemon so I’ll have enough for the second leg of the journey.

This next step will be Pal Park in my Gen IV game of choice. Since the transferred Pokemon have to be found in a random encounter as part of the minigame, I need to hope the RNG is on my side. In addition, different species of Pokemon appear in different locations of the Pal Park. Although Mudkip is the optimal choice for a normal Ruby speedrun, it appears in arguably the least convenient Pal Park sub-area, at least in relation to where the other Pokemon I’d be transferring can be found. Since I’m only playing Ruby for ~10 minutes, Treecko or Torchic would most likely be better starter choices for this category.

The next step is to use Poke Transfer in Gen V. It’s a simple minigame that relies mainly on timing and pattern memorization, so not really anything worth talking about in depth. However, I do want to take this moment to point out that in all, I’ll be using four different systems for this run; in order to connect to Colosseum, I need to be playing Ruby on a system in the GBA family, and I then need to stick that cartridge in an original DS or DS Lite for Pal Park to work. Finally, I’d be using my 3DS as the second system during the Poke Transfer portion. None of this matters much if the run is measured strictly on in-game time, but if we used real time, the playing area itself would need to be optimized so that I can switch systems as efficiently as possible.

Finally, I use Poke Transporter to bring the Jirachi to Bank, and from there I can send the Jirachi to Sun/Moon.

And that is how I plan on doing a Pokemon Bank Jirachi% speedrun.
