today’s cg animation industry can roughly be broken down into three categories
- adaptions of pre-existing “trend” media in the pure interest of commercialization and marketing purposes (the emoji movie, trolls, the angry birds movie, the fucking minions)
- presentations of “the secret world” of animals/babies/inanimate objects because a critically and financially successful genre-masterpiece like toy story (being the technological and artistic achievement that it was) is worth poorly ripping off over and over again for $$$$$$ (boss baby, storks, bee movie)
- wholly unnecessary sequels to mediocre – if not totally critically panned – films or movies that were already brilliant stand-alones because, you know, money (the smurfs, ice age, madagascar)
