To other autistic people, what’s the silliest thing you’ve ever heard someone believe about autism?

Oh god how am I supposed to pick just one.

The crowd that believes vaccines cause autism are probably the worst. Other silly things I have heard include: all autistics are nonverbal, all autistics are cis boys, autistic people don’t have or want to have sex.

people constantly believe i cant be autistic because im living just fine on my own. i have an apartment by myself and i pay for college myself and they just cannot believe im so self sufficient

the crowds that believe that every autistic:

• is unimaginative
• is averse to touch, sex etc.
• has “the brain of a child”
• has tantrumy meltdowns
• acts generally inappropriate at home and in public
• is a white boy who cries a lot and is obsessed with trains
• ruins their parent/guardian’s life
• is unempathetic
• needs to be cured
• is nonverbal
• can’t have an independent life

…are all quite ridiculous

i saw a guy on tv who thought autistics can’t feel romantic love

or the classic “autistics are all basically mini-spocks” trope that i’ve seen in an unfortunate amount of fiction
