Dickson raised Shulk and Dunban raised Fiora. What if Mumkhar raised Reyn? Obviously there’s no canon proof, which is a moot point since this isn’t a theory, but just imagine: What if Mumkhar actually took good care of Reyn?

Reyn gets picked on in school and Mumkhar threatens to beat up the kids’ parents. Reyn has a lot of issues because of losing his parents and Mumkhar just hugs him and reassures him. Mumkhar was still quite rough around the edges and still had his flaws, but cared deeply about Reyn. Imagine Mumkhar pushing Reyn to be the best he can be at whatever he tries to do.

When Reyn feels inadequate because Shulk is so smart and Fiora is so strong, Mumkhar encourages him to work hard and be the best he can be in his own special way. He encourages him not to compare himself to others. But, unfortunately, Mumkhar has trouble taking his own advice.

He compares himself to Dunban all the time. Dunban is a hero. Dunban is a good guardian to his sister. Mumkhar is also a good guardian and he’s also a hero, but Dunban is the one with the fame. Dunban is the one with the Monado. Reyn looks up to Dunban. He wants to be just like Dunban. It tears Mumkhar apart. He does his best, but he can’t compare to Dunban. So he starts to resent him. He eventually snaps, and you can figure out what happens from there.

…

Now just imagine the kind of character arc Reyn could have had if this were true. I’m aware that it would run the risk of messing up Dunban’s character arc, but there’s ways the two could have tied in together. It might have worked.

This is my most cherished Xenoblade headcanon.

I randomly had Xenoblade feels and wrote a long-winded post on my other blog.
